The camera at Whakatane trained at White Island has been upgraded and moved to a raised site above the town.

It will continue to take hourly photos of White Island, but with a greater zoom level than before. The camera is capable of taking movie pictures of any significant volcanic activity in addition to the stills presented on the website.

A second camera located on the crater rim has also become operational, and will supplement the current images from the crater floor.
