article: Oct 16 2006 - Shaking Maps Released

We now have maps of earthquake shaking intensity viewable for each earthquake on the web site.

There is a link to 'Shaking Maps' from each earthquake detail page. Use the menu at the top right of the map to add other layers. The other layers estimate the shaking intensity from the actual amplitudes measured by our seismometers.

The development of the application included rewriting the online application that gathers felt reports from the public to improve its stability and maintainability. The maps and accompanying summary table then compile the results from the questionnaires and reveal the impact of the earthquake on the community.
