Jul 30 2007 - GeoNet scoops a Computerworld Award!

The GeoNet Project has earned an award at the finals of the Computerworld Excellence Awards 2007.

At a ceremony for the Computerworld Excellence Awards in Auckland on Friday July 27, GNS Science picked up the award for Excellence in the Use of ICT in Government for the GeoNet web site, both what you see in your browsers and how it is engineered behind the scenes.

The development of the new web site was a team effort led by Geoff Clitheroe, GeoNet Systems Development Manager; Russell Michell, GeoNet Web Developer, also made a major contribution, bringing consistency, usability, accessibility, standards compliance, and good design to the web site.

Additionally Richard Guest was a finalist in the Young ICT Talent category for his work on the Taihape landslide monitoring project.

We in the GeoNet team are proud to celebrate this success - our web site is the portal to what we do across the whole project. We also thank our supportive colleagues in other parts of GNS Science, especially the research scientists, the IT team and our management and board.

The GeoNet Project would not have been possible without the vision and support of the New Zealand Earthquake Commission, and in particular the General Manager, David Middleton and the Research Manager, Hugh Cowan (also founding Director of the GeoNet Project).
