article: Oct 9 2007 - Young River update
The lake reached the dam crest level at approximately 8.00 pm on Friday October 5 and water has been flowing across the top of the dam since.

Activities
Further investigation and monitoring activities of the Young River landslide dam are being undertaken during a site visit by GNS scientists today. A pressure transducer is being positioned in the lake to record lake level changes and a terrestrial laser scanner used to scan an image for the preparation of an accurate topographic map of the landslide and dam. Both methods require subsequent site visits to recover information; in the case of the pressure transducer to download data recorded, and for the laser scanner to scan another image for comparison with earlier scans in order to delineate changes in the landslide and dam. Two of these are shown below.
These techniques, along with the camera and acoustic flow meter installed on October 3, collect monitoring data between site visits and do not provide information in real time for use in a warning system.![]()
