A team of scientists has visited the Makarora valley to assess the dam-break threat posed by a landslide dam blocking the Young River.

A GeoNet landslide response team consisting of scientists from GNS Science, University of Canterbury, and SLF (Davos, Switzerland) visited the Makarora valley to assess the dam-break threat posed by a landslide dam blocking the Young River. They inspected the rock avalanche and associated dam, and sent out images of the dam from the field. Further updates will be made as information becomes available.
