Operations
- A new borehole seismic site at Karaka Road (KBAZ), near Papakura, was made operational.
- A regional seismic site was installed at Pori Road (PRWZ), near the Puketoi Ranges in the Tararua District.
Earthquakes
- The most significant earthquake of the month occurred on November 9, magnitude 5.7 (revised), 20 km west of Rotorua, 200 km deep. It was felt throughout the eastern North Island, with a maximum intensity of MM 5 in Opotiki.

Reported Landslides
Saturday November 8
- SH 6 Whangamoa, Nelson. Road closed after a slip at 12:30 am on the Nelson side of the Whangamoa Saddle, 8 km east of Hira. Slip was 50 m long and covered both sides of the road with soil and bush.
Monday November 24
- Flooding in the Golden Bay area of the Nelson region was accompanied by landslides affecting Totaranui Road and drops on Abel Tasman Drive near Ligar Bay and two in the Kaiteriteri-Sandy Bay Road.
- Five hundred metres of the access road to Fox Glacier was washed away.
- A landslip caused the temporary evacuation of a house at Craigieburn near Upper Takaka. The house was re-occupied soon afterwards.
- Slips and washouts were also reported on the road to St Arnaud.
- A 5 tonne block of rock fell onto SH 6 at Nevis Bluff when it was accidentally dislodged by scaling operations.
Tuesday November 25
- SH 6 blocked by a slip between Blenheim and Nelson.
Wednesday November 26
- Various slips in Northland and Nelson-Marlborough. Aftermath of the same rainstorm from November 24-25 that affected Nelson and Northland. The rest of the North Island escaped heavy rainfall from a series of fronts.
Thursday November 27
- Rocks and tree on road, SH 6 Lower Buller Gorge at Berlins. Road closed.
