Seismic Activity:

Mayor Island (Tūhua) is an active volcano off the western Bay of Plenty coastline. The last caldera forming eruption, around 7,000 years ago, left the crater with a rim breached nearly to sea level on the north side of the island. Since then lava domes have started to infill the caldera.
