Jul 12 1996, 3:00 pm - Ruapehu Volcano

Science Alert Bulletin RUA-1996/35 - Update

The seismic activity has been at a very low level for the past 24 hours. No significant events have been recorded. The volcano was clear in the morning when light emission of white steam was reported. Cloud closed in around the summit in the early afternoon and a surveillance flight planned for 14:00 was cancelled. The possibility of volcanic activity and weather conditions combining to produce acid rain has declined.

Despite the current low level of activity, the volcano remains potentially active and the Alert Level remains at 3.
