Science Alert Bulletin WI-1998/06 - Alert Level reduced from Level 2 to Level 1
We advise that the Alert Level for White Island volcano is being reduced from 2 to 1.
Minor eruptive activity which commenced on August 21 appears to have ended. There have been no reports of ash eruption since September 18 and seismic activity remains at background levels.
During past eruptions at White Island, the level of activity has often varied considerably with time, and some cases very quickly. Should the current activity follow this pattern, the Alert Level may need to be returned to 2 in the near future.
