Scientists raised the Volcanic Alert Level for Mt Ruapehu to Level 2 in March as the volcano entered a period of moderate to heightened unrest. In addition to regular Volcanic Activity Bulletins (VABs), we made a series of video updates and news stories to explain what our monitoring data was indicating.

This was the first time we used video to share information during a volcanic unrest period. Over the course of three months, we posted four videos. We’d appreciate your thoughts on this way of communicating during volcanic unrest by completing our short survey.

The survey has now closed - thankyou for your time.

Thank you for your help.

Although we can’t prevent natural hazards, we can prepare for them – and we should.

The Department of Conservation has information on volcanic risk in the Tongariro National Park.

The National Emergency Management Agency's (NEMA) Get Ready website has information on what to do before, during and after volcanic activity.

And Toka Tū Ake EQC has information on how to get your home, apartment, or rental prepared for a natural disaster.
